Factual Speech
Factual speech Initial Ideas
As a 16 year old I enjoy going on social media whenever I have the chance. I find it interesting to find out what is going on in the world and what other people are getting up to, including my friends. Loads of 16 year old are very active on social media which is why I think it will be interesting to talk about as there are lots of secondary factual information on the internet, and could also get lots of primary information from people my age.
I also enjoy watching television in my spare time especially Netflix as they have lots of great programmes and films. Lots of people this age watch the same programmes and its very enjoyable to talk about it with friends. I think that choosing Netflix for my factual speech would be interesting to find out how many people watch Netflix and for how long, and what their favourite programmes are.
As a female I enjoy going shopping in my spare time. Using primary research I could find out the ratio from boys to girls about who enjoys going shopping and who doesn't. I could use secondary research to find out how much money and time people spend on shops and if it changes when it is near special events like christmas.
Definition of primary and secondary research
Primary research is when the research comes from you. When you personally goes out to collect information like doing a questionnaire, as you are collecting new data that hasn't been collected before. Other examples may include interviews and surveys. Primary research is normally used when a business want to collect information specifically for there company. There are two different types of primary research either exploratory or specific. Exploratory research is when the data collected is more open ended, like trying to get an opinion on a product is not going to have a specific category solution, but more open ended. Specific research is the opposite when there is a set answer like in a questionnaire there is more of a click box situation.

Whereas secondary research is where you get the research from someone else and you haven't personally got it like using the internet, as someone else has done the research and you are just using it. Another word for secondary research is desk research The research gathered however is not going to be specifically useful to you and you might have to apply what you have for your own use. Secondary research is useful as you are able to collect a lot of information in a short amount of time as it is very easy to find what you want especially now that we have the internet. Other examples of secondary research includes getting information books, experiments. company websites, and magazine articles. Secondary research can be either internal or external. Internal is when the information is collected form inside your company and external is when you get the information from someone else's organisation.

Overall, the difference between primary and secondary is that primary the research is done by you personally where as secondary is where the research has come from someone else.
Qualitative data is information that you get that is descriptive and non-numerical data like gender and religion whereas quantitative data is measurements that does include statistic like age or weight

Advantages and disadvantages of primary and secondary research
The advantages of secondary research is that it is inexpensive as you can get it of the internet and use books, which means that is is also easily accessible. It is immediately available meaning that you don't have to go very far to get the information you could get it of the computer meaning that it is very easy to get hold of.
The disadvantages of secondary research is that the information that you get could be out of date where as when you get primary research the information collected is going to be up to date. It could potentially be unreliable as people could have just made it up so there is no proof that any of the information you collect is real. It also might not actually be the information that you are looking for and may not totally answer your research questions.

The advantages of primary research is that it is very useful and is also very accurate and reliable as you have gone and got the information your self so you know that everything you have is going to be the most up-to-date information.
The disadvantages of primary research is that it could be expensive depending on what information that you have to collect, you might have to travel really far to get the research. It takes a long time to get the information as you have to go out and do it yourself so it is going to take more time whereas secondary research is very a lot quicker to collect.

SWOT analysis
Strengths- there are many questions to ask so I am able to include lots of facts in my speech,
Weaknesses- Not every person has Netflix so that is restricting the amount of information that I could gather
Opportunities- There is lots to talk about as it is a very broad topic, lots of people watch Netflix so because it is popular I am able to gather lots of information
Threats- Because there is so much to talk about I will struggle to fit it into a 30 second
SWOT analysis
Strengths- There are lots of different social media so lots of people will have at least one of these
Weaknesses- It is quite a obvious topic to go for because it is so popular so it isn't be very imaginative
Opportunities- I am easily able to collect information from 16 year olds by doing a survey which won't take long so I will be able to get lots of information
Threats- Because of the amount of information that I can gather it will be difficult to get all the facts into that short amount of time without having too much
SWOT analysis
Strengths- 16 year girls would be my target audience so I would know who to go to get my information
Weaknesses- There aren't as many people that go shopping often then they do have a social media
Opportunities- It is a topic that isn't as easy as the others so it will be more of a challenge, but because the target audience is quite small then I will be able to fit it in a 30 second speech
Threats- There won't be too much to talk about, There aren't many questions to answer and it would be more difficult to get the information as it would be qualitative data

I have chosen to talk about Netflix so that I can inform the audience about what the most popular Netflix series and films there are available. It is there to educate them about how many hours a week the average person spends on Netflix so they are able to make there own judgement if that is too much. It is there to entertain them so that they are interested and listen to what I am saying.

I have chosen to talk about social media so that I can inform the audience of how long you spend on social media and how it affects your life, so that they can make there own judgement on to if they should make changes to their social life. It is there to educate them about the advantages and disadvantages of social media so they are able to improve there knowledge on the subject. It is there to entertain them otherwise if it was boring then they wouldn't take in the information as much then if they enjoyed it.

I have chosen to talk about shopping so that I can inform the audience on the best shops that people use. I can inform the audience about what the most popular shops are for 16 year olds. Also it is there to educate them about how much time and money is spent on shopping especially during christmas and it is there so that the audience can make their own judgement about if it is worth spending that amount of money. It is there to entertain them and for them to be interested in what I am saying so I will make sure that the facts that I present are interesting and engaging so that the audience take in what I am talking about.

Using the information above I have decided to do my final speech on social media because I think it will have the biggest audience as most teenagers have some form of social media therefore I will find it the easiest to gather lots of information. Also, there are lots of questions that I can ask about social media, and because it is such a popular topic lots of people will be interested about the speech. I think that there are many questions that I could ask which means more information in the speech. There is lots to talk about as there are so many different types of social media. Where as with the others not as many people will go shopping or have netflix so it will be harder for me to gather information. With netflix it is a very broad topic so there will be too much to talk about in a 30 second speech. With shopping I think it will be difficult to think of many questions, and there isn't as many people that have social media then go shopping. I think that social media will interest the audience more than the others and I think it will educate them more because there is lots to learn about social media and there is lots that people don't know about. I think that it is important that people learn more about social media because of how popular it is. I think that it will entertain the audience more than the others because the younger generation use social media the most.

Secondary Research
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkPrZbI5C3k this video contains lots of facts about the increase use on social media and how it is changing and improving as time goes on. To make it interesting they didn't have a person standing there talking but instead had the facts be shown in lots of different ways but it was always easy to understand and read. They had big fonts and the important figures were bold to make them stand out. They showed facts in a way that represented the fact itself to make it more interesting. There wasn't any speaking which could mean that the audience won't find it very interesting but I think that because of how they used images and presented it in a exciting way it will make them stay interested till the end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djxBklC5m-4 This video also contains lots of facts with the same concept as the other video. I think this is because it makes the video a lot more interesting otherwise the facts could come across not entertaining which means that the audience won't remember the facts that are presented. They made the video very fast paced with the constantly changing images. Using the information from these factual videos it has gave be inspiration of what I should do in my own video. I don't have as much experience as what these creators have but I will incorporate some of their ideas. The facts that they said were relevant to my topic as they included lots of information about social media. They have included facts that involves millions of people making the results more shocking. Watching different videos has helped me for my own video and is relevant because the information is related to my topic and because the way that the videos are presented are very useful as I am able to use this format for my own video.

I also gathered lots of secondary research from lots of different websites the websites that I used are https://www.brandwatch.com, www.dreamgrow.com, and https://wearesocial.com which is shown below.

Facebook-
-
Facebook adds 500,000 new users every day; 6 new profiles every second
-
76% of Facebook users check it every day
-
Half of internet users who do not use Facebook themselves live with someone who does
-
There are 60 million active business pages on Facebook
-
Facebook accounts for 53.1% of social logins made by consumers to sign into the apps and websites of publishers and brands

-
500 million people visit Twitter each month without logging in
-
There is a total of 1.3 billion accounts, but only 328 million are active
-
There are 500 million Tweets sent each day. That’s 6,000 Tweets every second
-
77% of Twitter users feel more positive about a brand when their Tweet has been replied to

-
There are 800 million Monthly Active Users on Instagram
-
Over 95 million photos are uploaded each day
-
There are 4.2 billion Instagram Likes per day
-
More than 40 billion photos have been shared so far
-
90 percent of Instagram users are younger than 35
-
24% of US teens cite Instagram as their favourite social network

Snapchat
-
Snapchat has 178m active daily users
-
In 2016, $90m was spent on Snapchat ads
-
47% of US teens think it’s better than Facebook, while 24% think it’s better than Instagram
These facts are very interesting and useful to my speech because they are a range of different facts that are surprising but also interesting to people. Some of the facts don't affect the younger audience which are the ones that I will not be including.

1. Online adults aged 18-34 are most likely follow a brand via social networking (95%).

2. 71% of consumers who have had a good social media service experience with a brand are likely to recommend it to others.

3. 2.56 billion global mobile social media users, equaling 34% penetration; globally with 1 million new active mobile social users added every day

4. 96% of the people that discuss brands online do not follow those brands’ owned profiles.

5. Visual content is more than 40 times more likely to get shared on social media than other types of content.
These are other facts that I got from another website which are also useful because they have used different percentages which are easy to understand the amount of people that includes, rather than figures and numbers of people.

-
There are just over 3.4 billion active internet users worldwide
-
2.3 billion people have social media accounts
-
Nearly 3.8 billion people have access to the internet via mobile devices
-
Close to 2 billion people are active mobile social media users

This is the last factual information that I collected from the internet. I will be including these facts in my final speech because it shows how many people are on social media and it is good to have information taken from lots of people which is better then primary research as not as many people has taken it therefore the facts above are more reliable then the facts that I got.
All these different types of secondary research are all useful and the facts that I found of the different websites are all going to be used because the facts are shown in different ways in each website. Some are presented in percentages, and some statistics. All these facts are relevant to the topic and I will include them in my final video.

Primary Research
Primary Research
I created a google form with all the questions that I wanted to find out from 16 year olds about social media. The questions that I asked were both open answers, so that I could get a range of results. I then emailed my form to people that I wanted to get information from both girls and boys who are at the age of 16. after people had answered the forms I then reviewed the results are shown in the charts below.

Using this information I am able to turn the responses into statistics and these will all be included include secondary research which will include facts that have been asked by many people to give a more accurate speech and I will include my research which I have gathered from the questionnaire. The difference between the secondary research and primary research I that in my case I didn't get as many people to answer the questionnaire as the secondary research as they have gathered information from thousand. Although I knew because of my own research that the information is on the results that I gathered.

Analysis:
How many types of social media do you have?
5 people said that they have more than 5 types of social media, 3 people have 4, 2 people have 3, 1 person has 2 and 1 person has 2. This means that over half the people who took the questionnaire have 4 or more different social media. From this information I am able to say that nearly 36% have more than 5 types of social media and that only 14% have 1 type of social media at 16 years of age.

How long do you spend on social media per day?
1 person said that they spend less than an hour a day on social media, 2 people said they spend 1 hour, 1 person said they spend 2 hours a day, 2 people said they spend 3 hours a day on social media, 3 people they said they spend 4 hours, and 3 people said they spend 5 hours and 2 people said they spend 6. This again shows that more people spend more time on social media a day then people who don't spend much time on social media. The average time is 4-5 hours a day on social media. From this information I am able to say that nearly 43% of 16 year olds spend 4-5 hours a day on social media.

What device do you check social media per day?
3 people said they use there laptop or computer to check on social media. 1 person said they use there tablet, and 9 people use their phones. From this information I am able to say that the majority of 16 year olds use there phone to check social media but for a more specific answer I could say that 64% use their phones to check their social media

Do you think that social media has a positive or negative effect on society?
4 people said that social media has a negative effect on society whereas the other 10 people said that it has a positive effect, which means every 2 in 5 people think that social media has a good effect on social media. From this I can say that 72% of 16 year olds think that social media has a positive effect on social media.

Who do you like to stay most up-to-date with on social media?Any specific people
The majority of the answers were either celebrities, including Youtubers musicians and actors, family and friends, or news. From this information I can say that 16 year olds like to stay up to date with celebrities and friends and family the most.

How many times a day do you check social media?
5 people check their social media more then 15 times a day, 2 people check it 12-15 times, 1 person checks it 9-12, 2 people check it 6-9, 2 people 3-6, and 3 people said 0-3 times a day. 15+ had the most amount of answers showing that people like to check social media regularly. This information shows that most 16 year olds check there social media 15 times a day.

At what age did you get your first social media?
3 people got their first social media when they were 10 years old, 4 people said at the age of 11, 2 people said 12, 2 people said 13 and 3 people said 14+. Which shows that half the responses said they were either 10 or 11 when they got their first social media.

What is your least favourite social media?
They main results are that 4 people said instagram, 3 people said Twitter, 2 said kik, and 2 said facebook. This shows that the majority clearly find Instagram as their least favourite social media to use. From this information it shows that most 16 year olds least favourite social media is Instagram

What is your favourite social media?
3 people said facebook, 3 people said Instagram, 2 said Snapchat, 3 said youtube videos. These results are more similar than the others making youtube facebook and instagram the most likeable social media.

Why do you use social media?
2 people said to waste time, 7 said to keep in contact with friends and family other results included read the news, and for fun. Therefore I can say that the majority of 16 year olds use social media to keep in contact with friends and family.

From collecting all this information I am able to say many facts about 16 year olds regarding social media. However, because of the lack of people completing the questionnaire it means that the results aren't as accurate as the secondary research where they gather information from lots of different 16 year olds.
Reflection
I have gathered primary and secondary research, the primary research shows lots about 16 year olds and social media. I have analysed all the information I collected and used it to state facts for my final speech. I have also gathered lot of secondary research from different websites and have included some of the facts that are relevant to my speech. I have got lots of information but I will only be using the most interesting and surprising so that it keeps the audience interested in what I am saying. I am going to use secondary research facts that are relevant to my primary research and I will include them in my speech.

Proposal
In my speech I will talk about the research I gathered I will start with my research and then after include the secondary research which will support the primary research but on a bigger scale, to show that what I am saying is correct. I will only state the facts and not give my opinion so that the vide is the complete truth. I hope to achieve an interesting and engaging speech with lots of facts that are interesting to the audience.

Video Script
I did lots of secondary and primary research about social media for 16 year olds. Some secondary research that I gathered from different websites are as follows. There are 2.56 billion global mobile social media users and Close to 2 billion people are active mobile social media users. There are 7.44 billion people in the world which means that 34% of the worlds population have some type of social media. I also did a questionnaire for my primary research and using the results I have come to some conclusions. Some of the facts that have been shown with the results are as follows. 43% of 16 year olds spend 4 to 5 hours a day on social media. 36% of 16 year olds have more than 5 types of social media and only 14% have 1 type of social media. 72% of 16 year olds think that social media has a positive effect on social media, meaning that only 28% think that it is a negative effect on society. From my research it shows that a lot of 16 year olds like to stay up to date with celebrities and friends and family the most. half the responses said they were either 10 or 11 when they got their first social media which for most social media is above this age. most 16 year olds check there social media 15 times a day, where 500 million Tweets are uploaded a day which is 6,000 tweets per second. Half the responses said they were either 10 or 11 when they got their first social media. I asked what 16 year olds least favourite social media which is Instagram. Instagram has 800 million Monthly Active Users, 95 million photos are uploaded everyday with 4.2 billion likes. But surprisingly 24% of US teenagers have Instagram as their favourite site. The majority of 16 year olds use social media to keep in contact with friends and family. There are also many statistics regarding facebook which is that 76% of Facebook users check their account every day, and There are 60 million active business pages on Facebook, showing that many people that use Facebook to promote their own businesses.
Snapchat also has many interesting facts which is that snapchat has 178m active daily users and 60% of them are under 25, 47% of US teens think it’s better than Facebook, while 24% think it’s better than Instagram.
Story Board
- I didn't really have much of a story so I struggled with this part, so all I included was me standing in front of the camera and then the music that I used in the background. This was still useful though as I was able to know what to do when I start to film.

Factual
Factual is a piece of information that is the truth. It is something that is not an opinion but is clearly stating a fact which is unbiased. Documents are a obvious form of factual production as it is a programme that is all facts and is informing the audience of a certain topic which could be to do with a famous person or nature these are just a few examples of what they could be about. The news is also another example of factual production, as it is people stating what is going on in the world without having an opinion. Newspapers are another examples of factual production because they are again not including opinions and telling the absolute truth. It is very difficult to not include your opinion when writing a newspaper article which is why there are editors to make sure there is no opinions. The radio can also be a form of factual production as it is when someone is informing the audience of a certain topic.
The reason we have factual programmes is to inform the audience so they are able to make their own judgement. It is also interesting to find out what is going on in the world and without documentaries we wouldn't be able to learn and improve our knowledge of things in the world.
There are many advantages and disadvantages, the advantages of factual production include that you can learn about what is going on in the world which is important to know. When you watch documentaries you can choose which ones to watch as there are such a huge variety of them that exist so you can learn about something that you are interested in. It is enjoyable for people to watch and learn about things in the world that you never knew existed and that you might not be able to see in real life but it is intriguing to see it from the television.
The disadvantages of factual production is that sometimes it can come across quite boring so it is difficult to make it interesting so that people watch it, sometimes it can be not very entertaining which means that people will not watch the whole documentary. Also, because it can be very difficult to not include any opinions, but if it does then it doesn't count as being factual.
These are some examples of documentaries, the top left one is about area 51 which means that the audience is able to find out information that they themselves would not be able to find out. The top right one is about the early British empire which is a documentary about the history of this country which lots of people will want to find out and have knowledge about. The bottom documentary is about anxiety and depression which people will find very useful and it will give them a better understanding of the topic. These three documentaries are very different because they are all about completely different topics but are all factual information.
My final speech
Peer Assessment
Evaluation
In my final speech there were many positives and negatives with the process and the out come. The good things about the final speech is that I have included lots of facts and have managed not to include any of my own opinions. I have clearly included primary and secondary research and I made sure that I got straight to the point so that I could include as many facts as possible. I think that this was important as this task was focussing on getting lots of different research which I have clearly done.
However, the negatives about the final speech is that it could come across quite boring as there wasn't much going on other than me standing there and talking which could mean that the audience loses focus on what I am saying. However, to try and overcome this I included some background music to make it more interesting and so it could be as entertaining as possible.
I said that my speech would inform, entertain and educate the audience which I think I have done to some extent. I have informed the audience about social media as I have told them different facts about it which could change their opinion on the subject. It wasn't as entertaining as I would have liked but it is hard to get the balance between being informative and being boring which I tried to overcome. I have tried to be as educating as possible so I tried to include facts that the audience would think of as quite shocking.
Looking at other similar videos to mine on the internet I realised that they used a lot of effects put the facts up on the screen. I would have done this but I didn't have the skills on premiere pro to do this.
Overall, I think that I have successful completed the brief as I have shown my ability to get primary and secondary research and been able to analyse it and make it into a factual speech.
From this peer assessment I am able to see what I could do to improve my own work. I am able to take these comments on board and make sure that I focus on this more in the following tasks.
You explained the definition of 'factual' clearly and effectively, however, you could have analysed the videos more.

Your speech was very engaging and interesting, and you included many statistics that are relevant in todays world. However, to make it even more interesting you could include visual aids.
