The top two pictures are the pictures that I quite liked the one on the left I liked because of the different the different textures, and the different shapes used. The picture on the right I found very interesting because it is lots of radios over time, the older ones and the newer ones at the top. I liked to see how the radios physically changed over time. I didn't like the bottom right one as it looks rather plain and boring. The bottom right picture I didn't like also because it doesn't look like anything and I can't see what it was supposed to be. Reading what it is about I still didn't think that the meaning was relevant and clear to me.

I got an email from Wildwood media which is shown on the left on 7/11/17. I have since replied asking to meet with him on Friday.

On the 9/11/17 he said that he was at the campus on Friday not long after he said could we meet at 12:30 but we ended up missing each other.

I emailed him back apologising that I missed him and we have made another time to meet on the 13/11/17.

How long have you been in the industry?
He has been in the media industry for 20 years

How did you get to be in the industry?
Came to midkent college while he was there he was doing work experience and got paid to do editing and other work related to media, then went to university then left and went into work with production companies

Do you think going to university is necessary?
No but with him he didn't have any one else around him who was interested in the same things as him. So going to university forced him to get out there

What skills are the most important when going into the industry?
Communication skills and people skills so that it makes people remember you, passion towards the subject and being organised

What do you recommend for being the next step after college to get into the industry?
Further education like apprenticeships, making your own work because everyone has done the course so you are all at the same level so it will make you stand out if you have your own videos
SWOT analysis on own skills

Strengths
A strength of mine is that I always turn up to college on time which makes me more employable as they know that I won't be late for work. I am good at working in a team and working individually. When working in a team I always give my thoughts and ideas, but also compromise with everyones ideas as it makes the team get along better but also have an outcome that everyone is happy with. When working individually I am also good because I am able to think of lots of ideas quickly and am able to improve my own ideas to make the best work possible. I have quite good editing skills when using premiere pro because I experiment with all the different tools and watch tutorials on how to create good video effects using the program.

Weaknesses
A weakness of mine is that I don't have very good communication skills, because I get nervous when talking to a large group of people. I am not good at talking on the spot and rely on a script or a powerpoint to read from. I don't have a huge amount of confidence in myself and the work that I produce because I compare myself to others rather than only concentrating and being proud of what I get.

Opportunities
By being at college I am able to get work experience in the industry that I want to go down. I am able to gain knowledge on the different equipment and the latest software so that when I leave I will have learnt how to use the most up to date equipment and knowledge. Meaning people are going to want to employ me more than if I didn't have much knowledge on the software.

Threats
Because I am young I don't have much experience so employs might not want me as they won't think that I take it seriously and they think that I don't have experience in the working experience. Don't know many people in the industry so could find it difficult to get into the industry.

What Peter said about me
S- Grace is really creative when coming up with new ideas for her work. She is also good at leading a team.
W- Grace sometimes loses faith in her work and doesn’t have confidence in her work.
O- Grace lives near the college so she can ‘pop-in’ when she need to use the campus facilities.
T- Grace is young so she might not be taken seriously in the industry

5 year plan-
In 5 years time I see myself working with the a big company maybe the BBC or ITV and be editing there television programmes. Maybe being the assistant editor at this point but I will want to work my way up. After college I will try to get work experience or a job at the studios which is going to be the hardest thing to do because of how popular and well known the companies are it will be difficult to get a job which is why now I am trying to get lots of work experience so that I stand out from the other potential employees. If going to the BBC doesn't work then I will try and get a job with a smaller company that is a bit more local so that I can gain experience so then I can then go to a bigger company.

Year 1- When I leave college I will try and get work experience in the industry that I go in because I think that it is important because of my age to try and get experience as I will struggle to get a job because of my age the employers will think that I have no experience. So I will be building my CV with lots of different experience that I have so that I will find it easier to get a job.

Year 2- When I finish college I will try and get employment, depending on work experience I might be able to get employment there if not then it is still good to have on your cv. I will then try and get a job at the BBC or ITV studios which will be a great platform for my career. If I don't get a job there then I will try to get one locally to me so that I can gain more experience.

Year 3- If I get employment at the studio then I will start at the bottom, probably not doing work to do with what I studied but over time I will make my way up and use the skills I have developed to be a assistant editor. If I am not working here then I will carry on with the more local job also trying to develop my video skills so that I will be able to then move onto the much bigger companies.

Year 4- If I am working with the BBC or ITV then I will hope to be the video editor by this point. However, if I am not working here then I will see if I am enjoying the work I am doing locally and will make the decision to try and apply for a bigger company but again I will have to start at the bottom.

Year 5- Hopefully in year 5 I will be working for a big successful company and will either be doing the profession that I want which is to edit the programmes or I will be woking my way up to this point.
Action Plan
To improve by communication skills I will make sure when doing a presentation or a speech to learn roughly what I have to say so that I feel more confident and will not have to look at the screen or paper as much. Over time I will hope to not have any writing on the board or have a piece of paper, because the audience won't be listening to you but instead will be reading the board, and when you are reading from a piece of paper it doesn't make you look very professional and when looking down it doesn't connect with the audience so they lose focus which doesn't make a very good presentation.
I also don't have much confidence in my work and to improve this I will make sure that I don't compare myself to others but instead will just focus on my own work. I will take criticism better and will make improvements rather then thinking that all my work isn't good. If the work isn't as good as I wanted I will learn from my mistakes and make sure that I don't make the same mistake again.
Internships-
Internships is similar to an apprenticeship but is more as a means of work experience than training for a permanent placement. There are lots of successful interns which include, Steve jobs, Steven Spielberg, Oprah winfrey, John krasinski, Mindy kaling, Seth meyers, Aubrey plaza

Pros:

The opportunities available are that you can increase your social circle, there is a high chance of employment and further education after the course, and university graduates are more employable

Pros:
engage with society
get experience
Getting money

Cons:
Demands lots of work and pressure
Always have to work from the bottom even if you have knowledge

Apprenticeships-
A good example of an apprenticeship is working for tv studios. You will get to know how it feels like working and get to know the atmosphere around you.

There are lots of opportunities which include learning new skills, you may get employment by the company at the end of the apprenticeship, Earn money
A good thing to have on your CV, There are lots of apprenticeships about so you can find one that you enjoy in your chosen field

Pros:
Practical experience
Earn while you learn
No debt
Learn on the job

Cons:
Can't access certain careers
Miss on the university experience
Responsibility
Professional and constructive criticism of other peoples work

I have commented on Alexis' and Peter's work with positive and constructive criticism so that they know what they have done good and to carry on doing that. But more importantly constructive criticism to help them with there other work so they know how to improve.
I have written things like including more detail, or to add more writing or pictures. I did this so that they can improve on their work and get a better grade. I have done it professionally so that they take what I am saying seriously.

Discussion with a professional
A man came into college from Falmouth University to give a lecture about universities and whether it is the right thing to do and he was giving his opinion on certain things to look out for when picking a university.

When looking for universities to go to make sure that you don't just go to the one closest to you but instead go to lots of different universities and go to at least 5 open days to make sure that the university is for you, and it provides the facilities that you want and the most up-to-date facilities for your chosen career.

Don't look at the statistics because they don't show if you are going to be successful or not, which is why it is important to look at the universities themselves rather than only going on the statistics which doesn't actually mean that you are going to be part of that statistic.

He gave different routes to go down once you have finished graduation which included working in the creative and digital industries,, working freelance, or setting up your own business. Having an idea as to what you want to do when you leave university so that you are able to get prepared as to what you want to do. It is important to get prepared so that when you leave you have a job available to you straight after you have finished university.

He also said that it is important to apply for lots of jobs so that you are more likely to get the job and that if you are accepted you need to make sure that you know if it is the right job for you and a place where you can bring lots of ideas rather than not feeling passionate towards the company.

It is important to know what your strengths and weaknesses are and to make sure that you are able to try and overcome your weaknesses, some qualities that are important is teamwork, good communication skills, self awareness, drive, resilience and the ability to learn new skills. All these different qualities all affect each other and it is important to know what you are good at within these points as you can be good and bad at the same quality.

Make sure that you are going the extra mile and making sure that you are organised so that you are more likely to get a job. Apply for a job before November because for lots of big companies that is the cut of point for applications as they wan't people that are dedicated and stand out from everyone else.

Overall the man has helped me to make a decision about going to university and if I do go then I will make sure I take into consideration all the points that he has given me to make sure that I make the right choice.
Peer and self assessment analysis
From my own assessment I have seen that I need to improve my skills when using a camera. I need to learn all the different buttons and settings so I know when and how to use them when necessary. When doing carbon copy I didn't know how to change focus on the camera and struggled with this part, and instead had to edit this in. I also need to improve my knowledge on premiere pro so that I can know all the different effects and learn what the program has so that I can use it when editing clips. From the peer assessments that I received it shows that people like my editing skills. They like the way that the video's flow together, which makes the overall video professional. They like with the different shot video how there is a clear difference in the shots that I took. They also said that I have included the relevant terms and have given good examples with a detailed evaluation. With the mash up video they said how the clips are edited nicely and they fit together to make a realistic trailer. They liked that with some of the photos taken that I have shown what went wrong in my evaluation so I know how to improve. With carbon copy they said that it was a good representation of the video
but there was bit of lag between one of the transitions I will make sure that when I am next using premiere pro to make sure that I focus more on the detail of the videos to make sure that the clips transition nicely. From my own assessment I have seen that I need to improve my skills when using a camera. I need to learn all the different buttons and settings so I know when and how to use them when necessary. When doing carbon copy I didn't know how to change focus on the camera and struggled with this part, and instead had to edit this in.
